Central station in Newcastle
The main railway station in Newcastle opened in 1850 and was the first station covered the world, and it formed in many ways school for all upcoming railway stations in Britain. It has a neoclassical facade.
Tyne Bridge
This bridge connecting Gateshead with Newcastle is both beautiful and historic. This was the world’s first bridge with one span. The bridge was opened in 1928. You will find the bridge just outside the old town of Newcastle.
St. Mary’s Cathedral
St Mary is located in Fenham and is a Catholic cathedral. The cathedral is one of the most important Gothic churches designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. The cathedral was completed in 1844. St Mary’s Cathedral is located in Clayton Street West, just off the Newgate Shopping Center.
Great North Museum
This huge museum has something for the whole family. Here you will find a Tyrannosaurus Rex, not alive, but the skeleton of one, which is impressive enough, various Egyptian mummies and several interactive exhibits. Run and visit! The address is Barras Bridge north of Newcastle, just off the University and east of Leazes Park.
St. Nicholas Cathedral
St Nicholas with its elegant tower from 1474 is a bit of a sight. This is probably one of the smaller cathedrals in England, but it has played a significant role for people here in the north-east of the country for a number of years. And the beautiful church tower is a great landmark in Newcastle-upon-Tyne Old Town.
Angel of the North
Antony Gormley’s masterpiece can be found at Eighton Banks in Gateshead. This 20 meter high monument is the favorite of all tourists and it has also been honored to be copied in Legoland in Windsor. The address is Gainsborough House, 34-40 Gray Street. The wingspan of the “angel” is an impressive 54 meters.
Blue Reef Aquarium
Take the Grand Parade in Tynemouth for the ultimate underwater safari. Here are rocks, sharks, big squid and hundreds of other creatures. Open all year from 1000 to 1700. Take the metro to Cullercoats and then it is a 10 minute walk along the water towards Tynemouth.
Tynemouth is located about 15 kilometers east of Necastle-upon-tyne and just north of the South Shields.
Arbeia
This fort is a museum of Roman weapons, coins and other excavated objects. Exciting and interesting for those who are interested in history.
The address is Baring Street, in South Shields which is about 16 just east of Newcastle-upon-tyne, along the river Tyne.
